In my paintings I seek to make images that combine memories, both real and imagined, and translate them into narratives that are immediate and contemporary, actual in the present tense. From an array of stimuli I construct my own new and personal visual narratives. So the reality or challenge of the original becomes less burdensome and confining if it can serve for me as an opening for my own assimilation. In this way the outcome becomes new.
The process of painting is, for me, most analogous with conversation. There is often an undisclosed beginning, and an indefinite ending. As a painter I feel that I exist somewhere in between the beginnings and the endings.
